Indian Air Force IL-76MD Sets World Record With 13,629-Foot Landing in Ladakh

The Indian Air Force's IL-76MD transport aircraft has achieved a record-breaking landing at 13,629 feet in Ladakh. The operation at Nyoma airfield marks a significant development in India's high-altitude military airlift capabilities.

The Indian Air Force has achieved a significant milestone in high-altitude aviation after its IL-76MD transport aircraft completed its highest-ever landing at an altitude of 13,629 feet in Ladakh. The landing took place at Nyoma, India's highest operational airfield, located approximately 25–35 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

The record-setting landing demonstrates the aircraft's ability to operate in extreme high-altitude conditions and strengthens the Indian Air Force's capacity to support military operations in remote border regions. The achievement is expected to enhance the swift transportation of troops, equipment and essential supplies to strategically important areas along the northern frontier.

Nyoma's location and altitude make the landing particularly significant for military logistics and air operations near the India-China border. The successful operation highlights the importance of high-altitude airlift capabilities in ensuring access to remote locations where transportation and logistical support can be challenging.

Defence experts have praised the aircraft's crew for their precision in completing the landing at 13,629 feet. They described the achievement as a major step forward for India's strategic airlift capabilities near the northern frontier.
